Hi! Thanks so much for chatting with us – can you tell readers your name and what you do in the band?
Hey! Thanks so much for having us!!! My name is Jason and I play guitar and do some additional vocals in the band!
You released your album, The Things I Don’t Need, in May (congratulations, by the way!) How has the response been so far?
Thank you! We’re extremely grateful that the response has been awesome so far. People are connecting with the album and sharing it with friends! It was a decent gap between when we recorded this album and when it was released, so we had been playing the songs live for quite a while before it came out. I think the response live, now that the songs are out, has been incredibly impactful to me; to see people singing along and knowing the songs is still new to us and it’s so exciting every time it happens!
What’s your favorite song on the album and why? Are there any fun stories behind any of the tracks that you’d be willing to share with us?
My favorite song is “Quinn Goes To Jail”. Both Joe (bass) and Quinn (vocals) kill it on the songwriting front and Quinn’s vocal performance/lyrics are just major standouts for me. It also has my favorite moment on the entire album, which is the bridge. In the bridge of the song, we collected like 30 voice memos of friends and family revealing their greatest fears. It’s just a really special moment, and I’m incredibly proud of how it came out.
Cinema Stare has had quite the successful 2023 and I don’t see y’all slowing down anytime soon – what are three goals you want to accomplish by this time next year?
This is an awesome question. This year has felt like a huge step forward and we are planning for next year to be an even bigger one!!! In 2022, we only played 15 shows. This year, solely based on what is already booked, we are on course to quadruple that!! I think one goal for next year is to (at least) double this year’s number of shows! Another goal, and extension of the last one, is to play places we’ve never been, like the West Coast and Canada! Those are at the top of our list. The last goal is to get less stinky, because we STINK real bad and people have been telling us they can’t stand the smell anymore.
Okay, I love including a fun question in these interviews & since it’s pretty much Fall, what’s your go-to scary movie for Halloween season?
I LOVE the fall and Halloween, but I am not really a habitual scary movie watcher. With that said, for me Halloween would not be complete without a screening of It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! I watch that EVERY year.
